Like almost everyone these days, arts organizations nationwide are experiencing the challenges of our current economy—and adjusting accordingly. Here in Atlanta, our musicians, administrative staff and leadership recently took unprecedented steps to sustain one of this city’s and the nation’s most precious cultural assets, making both personal and professional sacrifices to safeguard our mission. Those selfless measures, together with the unwavering presence and support of our audiences and patrons, speak volumes to our collective commitment to the music. In fact, ASO Board Chair Ben Johnson recently affirmed, “the arts must sustain us and must be sustained by us.”
Indeed, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has never been more artistically vibrant, culturally relevant and full of possibility. The month of May opens with Music Director Robert Spano conducting his final two concerts of the season in Symphony Hall, including timeless works of Beethoven, Debussy, Stravinsky, and Mozart.
